Established in 1885, the Gandhi Bhawan Library is under the control of Jabalpur Municipal committee since 1922. The library is well equipped with approx. 40 thousand books of both Hindi & English literature. The members have to pay an annual subscription fee to avail the library services.
Through the technology intervention Jabalpur Smart city mission has transformed the way public libraries are managed. In this regard JSCL took an initiative to redefine and transform Gandhi Bhawan Public Library to ‘State of the Art Digital Public Library’ equipped with host of beneficial functions provided to student’s so as to enable them to excel in their studies.
Under Smart City Mission, GoI has selected Jabalpur as among the first 20 cities in India to give a decent quality of life to its citizens across all spheres. Smart Cities Mission is being mandated to implement the smart city proposal (SCP) across the selected cities. In this context, Jabalpur has incorporated Jabalpur Smart City Limited (JSCL) to plan, design, implement, coordinate and monitor the smart city projects in Jabalpur.
JSCL is a company incorporated under Indian Companies Act 2013 with equal shareholding from Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company Limited (MPUDCL) on behalf of Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP) and Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC).
Objective of the project is to setup a ‘Single Integrated Digital Library Platform’ in Gandhi Bhawan Library, Jabalpur to provide bouquet of services like e-library, self-learning capability, to its members and help various students and aspirants shape their career.
